Getting started
Sitemapaudit checks whether the URLs in your sitemap actually still work — no sign-up, no account, no cost.
- Go to the App page. The page has a single input field and an Audit button.
- Paste your sitemap URL. Enter the full URL to your sitemap (or sitemap index). Example:
https://example.com/sitemap.xml - Click Audit. The tool fetches the sitemap, follows any sitemap-index recursion, and requests every URL it lists.
- Read your report. Within seconds you see: how many URLs were checked, how many returned 200, which ones 404 or redirect, and an analysis of
lastmodhonesty.
That is all there is. There are no settings, no configuration, no dashboards. Paste a URL, get a report.
Frequently asked questions
A sitemap is a file you publish that tells search engines which pages your site has. If you rename, remove, or redirect a page after the sitemap is generated, the sitemap is now describing pages that no longer exist — that is drift. Most sitemap validators only check whether the XML is well-formed, which it almost always is. Sitemapaudit checks whether the actual URLs still work.
A maximum of 50 URLs are checked per audit on the Free tier. If your sitemap lists more than 50 URLs, the tool takes the first 50 entries as a sample. If you need larger audits, the Pro tier (planned) will support up to 200 URLs.
Yes. If you submit a sitemap index (a file that points to multiple child sitemaps), the tool follows the index and fetches URLs from each child sitemap. Recursion is one level deep and capped at 20 child sitemaps.
This tool runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare does not allow a Worker to connect to a website that is itself behind Cloudflare. Those URLs cannot be reached and will be marked as "Cloudflare blocked" in the report. There is no workaround from our side. If you control that website, you can check those URLs manually or through a tool that runs outside Cloudflare's network.
The report checks two things about
lastmod values: (1) whether every URL in the sitemap shares the same lastmod value — this is the signature of a generator stamping "now" on everything rather than tracking real page changes; (2) whether any lastmod dates are in the future, which is a clear error. When both are clean, the report says so. When they are not, it flags the issue and shows what the identical value was.No. You can audit as many sitemaps as you like on the Free tier, subject only to the 50-URL cap and the fact that each audit is processed one at a time. There is no daily limit, no account needed, and no throttling.
Not yet. The tool currently runs a single point-in-time audit every time you submit a URL. There is no scheduling, no alerts, and no email notifications. Recurring audits are planned for the Pro tier but have not been built. Because there is no email sender in the service, we cannot email you results even if the feature were built — that infrastructure would need to be added first.
Not yet. The Pro plan ($9/month) is shown on the Pricing page as the intended product direction — larger audits (up to 200 URLs), CSV exports, and recurring audits. No payment processor is connected, so no subscription can be purchased today. The checkout form on the Pricing page is a demonstration only; no real payment is taken.
Known limitations
50-URL cap. A maximum of 50 URLs are checked per audit on the Free tier. Larger sitemaps are sampled from the first 50 entries.
Cloudflare-blocked hosts. This tool cannot reach websites hosted behind Cloudflare. Those URLs will appear as "blocked" rather than as unreachable.
Point-in-time. Results reflect the state of each URL at the moment of the request and may change if the site is redeployed or updated.
Sitemap-index recursion is one level deep (capped at 20 child sitemaps).
No scheduled or recurring audits. Each audit runs on demand only. There is no scheduling system and no email sender, so automated alerts are not possible.
No accounts or user data. The tool does not store audit history, create user profiles, or remember previously checked sitemaps. Every audit is a fresh request.
No payment processor. Pro subscriptions cannot be purchased. The checkout screen on the Pricing page is a demonstration only. No payments are taken, no subscriptions are created.
